Transforming a façade into a branded surface
So much more than an eye-catcher
Located at the heart of Metzingen's Outletcity on the Gaenslen & Völter site, the DGNB Platinum certified HUGO BOSS Outlet Store is the largest of the group worldwide. The retails have always been in the vanguard of fashion, and now they are showing the world that building sustainably is a value driver, not a cost driver.
The DGNB (German Sustainable Building Council) Certification System has been distinguished by its international approach on sustainable building. It promotes a uniformly high quality of buildings, quarters or interiors, being the market leader among providers of certification systems in Germany and an European leader.
Their Certification System covers all of the key aspects of sustainable building: environmental, economic, sociocultural and functional aspects, technology, processes and site, assesing the entire life cycle of a building.
The BOSS Outlet met every performance requirement and got awarded the Platinum Certification.
This building envelope moves beyond the mere window display, thanks to the architects blocher Partner's design, they transformed the entire façade into a branded surface, creating an spectacular retail space, yet keeping a conceptual distinction between architecture and display. Linking the former fabric factory with the fashion world, the façade with the store's minimalistic interior design, demonstrating that the role that architecture plays in retail is as crucial as ever.
The exposed smooth Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete panels from polycon in grey shade on the ground floor are interrupted by gentle amplitudes by means of shop windows, media walls, entrances and exits as well as the bistro with terrace. The dark facade of the upper floor ensnares the building and gently envelops it, creating with this a flawless line between the large glass windows and the façade.
