polycon - Project: Ostravská Brána, in Ostrava / CZ

For the facade's design of the residential and commercial building in Ostrava, special attention was paid to integrating the coal mining process' history of the site. This was achieved by modifying the polycon concrete mix by adding charcoal dust to the mix. This created a special "smoky" color on the 2,500 m² facade, which appears light gray in direct sunlight and black in the shade.
